  • How do I change the group name?
    You can change the group name of your shared phonebook by following these procedure:
    1. On the handset press the soft key below the phonebook icon then press [MENU]
    2. Press the [▲] or [▼] button to highlight "Group"
    3. Scroll to the group you wish to edit and press [SELECT]
    4. Press [SELECT] again on "Group name"
    5. press the number pad corresponding the letters on the keys to enter your preferred group name, note that you can only enter up to 10 characters
    6. Press [SAVE] then press [OFF]

  • How do I change the display language on my handset?
    You may change the display language and the voice guidance of the answering system.
    For the Display language:
    1. Make sure that the phone is not in use, press [MENU] on the handset

    3. Select your preferred language from the 2 options, highlight either English or Spanish by pressing the [▲] or the [▼] button
    4. Press then press OFF

  • How do I change my remote access code for my answering machine?
    A remote access code must be entered to operating the answering system remotely. This code prevents unauthorized parties from listening to your messages when your away from home. To change your remote code, perform one of the following procedures below using your cordless handset:
    1. Press [MENU] [#] [3] [0] [6] on the handset
    2. Key in your preferred 3 digit code
    3. Press [OK] or [SAVE]

    OR

    1. Press [MENU] and scroll down by pressing [▲] or [▼] until "Answering Device" is displayed, then press [OK]
    2. Press your [▲] or [▼] repeatedly until "Setting" is displayed, then press [OK]
    3. Press your [▲] or [▼] until "Remote Code" is displayed, then press [OK]
    4. Key in your preferred 3 digit code
    5. Press [OK] or [SAVE] to save the change then press [OFF]
    Note that you won't be able to access your messages from your answering machine when you are away from your phone if you forget your remote access code.
  • How do I chain dial from this phone?
    This feature allows you to dial phone numbers in the phonebook while you are on a call. This feature can be used, for example, to dial a calling card access number or bank account PIN that you have stored in the phonebook, without having to dial manually. Proceed in calling the number you need to contact then, start chain dialing by pressing [Ph.book] on the handset. Select your desired entry from the phonebook items then press [CALL], the phone should automatically dial the number.
  • How do I call my assigned speed dial numbers?
    Press and hold the speed dial number and press [TALK]
  • How do I block incoming calls/ numbers?
    With caller ID service already subscribed on your line, you may use call block feature to block a call.
    You need to store unwanted callers in the call block list.
    • To store block number manually, press [MENU] [#] [2] [1] [7], and [ADD]; enter 10 digit number then press [SAVE] and [OFF].
    • To store block number from caller list, press [MENU] [#]"[2] [1] [3], then scroll to the number to be blocked and press [SAVE].

    NOTE: call block feature will not work without Caller ID service from the phone company

  • How do I adjust the volume on my handset during a call?
    To adjust the volume of the handset during a call, you can press [▲] or [▼] on the handset.
  • How do I adjust the brightness of the screen on my handset?
    You can adjust the LCD contrast of the handset and base by following these procedure:
    1. Make sure that the handset is not in use. On the handset press [MENU]
    2. Press [#] [1] [4] [5]
    3. There are 6 levels of selection. Press any of the number keys from 1 - 6
    4. Press the soft key [SAVE] then press [OFF]
  • How do I adjust ringer volume?
    To adjust the ringer volume on the handset, press [MENU] [#] [1] [6] [0] and press [▲] or [▼] to raise or lower the ringer volume.
  • How do I adjust incoming ringer volume?
    To adjust the ringer volume of the handset or Base unit. Press [+] or [-] on the base or [▲] or [▼] on the cordless handset repeatedly to select the desired volume while the unit is ringing for an incoming call.
  • How do I adjust base unit ringer volume? How do I turn off the base unit ringer all the time?
    On base unit, press [+] or [-] repeatedly to select the desired volume. To turn the ringer off, press and hold [-] until the unit beeps.
  • How can I use the mute feature?
    While mute is turned on, you can hear the other party, but the other party cannot hear you. [MUTE] is a soft key visible on the display on the handset only during a call. You can press the soft key anytime during a call. Press [MUTE] again to return to the conversation.
  • How can I switch to speaker phone on my handset?
    You can switch to speaker phone by pressing the speaker phone button on the handset and if you would want to get to the regular talk mode on the phone just press the [TALK] button on the cordless phone.
  • How can I re-register my handset?
    To register a handset, perform the following steps:
    1. Press [MENU] →[#] [1] [3] [0] on the Handset
    2. Press and hold down the locator button on the base for about 5 seconds until you hear the registration tone (If all registered handsets starts ringing, press LOCATOR again to stop, then repeat this step, procedure needs to be completed within 90 seconds
    3. Press [OK] on the handset.
  • How can I register the warranty of my phone?

  • How can I join an existing outside call from another handset?
    To join an existing outside call, press [TALK] on the handset. The maximum participating parties having a conversation at the same time, including one outside party, are four (4).
  • How can I insert a pause into a phone number (for voicemail, calling card, etc.)?
    When entering a number into the phonebook, just press [PAUSE] on the handset between the two numbers you want. Each pause is 3.5 seconds, so you may need to use more than one to make sure the other end has a chance to answer first.
  • How can I conference call using multiple handsets?
    A maximum of 4 parties (including 1 outside party) can join a conversation using 3 extensions. (4-way conference)
  • Does my phone have the Talking Caller ID feature?
    Yes. This model has a 'Talking Caller ID' feature, you need to be subscribed to a Caller ID service from you phone company in order for it to work. This feature can be set to on or off individually for the base unit and will need to be performed on each handset.
  • Does my phone have Bluetooth capability?
    No. This model does not support Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Does my model have a room monitor feature?
    No, this model does not have a room monitor feature.
  • Does my handset have a headset jack?

  • Does my Answering machine has an audible message alert?
    Yes. This feature allows the base unit to beep to inform you of a new message arrival when new messages are recorded. The base unit beeps 2 times every minute until you listen to the messages, if the "Base unit beep" setting is turned on. The default setting is "Off". To turn the message alert on, follow these steps:
    1. On the cordless handset press [MENU] then press the pound sign [#]
    2. Press [3] [3] [9]
    3. Select "ON" then press [SAVE]

    IMPORTANT: The message alert is only for the base and not incorporated on the handset.
    If the silent mode is activated then the base will not beep.
  • Does it have speaker phone?
    Yes. The base has a speaker phone button, you can dial from the handset and press the speaker phone button on the base for a hands free conversation. The handsets has a speaker phone option as well.

    No. Use ONLY Ni-MH batteries AAA (R03), which is specified in the operating instruction book. WARNING: DO NOT USE ALKALINE OR HEAVY DUTY BATTERIES.
  • Can my answering system forward calls to alert me that I received a new message from my home number?
    Yes, this model has the calling message alert feature. If the feature is turned on it allows the unit to make a call to the pre-stored phone number and inform you that a new message has been received byannouncement.
    Important: If the unit makes a call to the pre-stored phone number after the new message isrecorded, the call is answered, the announcement is repeated for about a minute and if nobody answers within 1 minute, the unit will not retry the call.
  • Can I wall mount this phone?
    Yes. The base unit is wall mountable, there are 2 holes at the rear of the base from where you can hang the unit to the wall.
  • Can I set ringer not to ring for a certain period of time in the day on a handset?
    Yes. The silent feature will allow you to select a span of time during which the handset or base will not ring for outside calls. This feature is useful for instances when you do not want to be disturbed, for example, while sleeping. Make sure that before you activate this feature, you have already set your date and time on your phone. Silent mode can be set independently for each base unit and handset. On the handset press [MENU] [#] [2] [3] [8] then press [&#9650;] or [▼] to select "ON", and press [SAVE]
    Then you may set the time you wish to turn on the feature by entering the hour and minute using two digits for each; press [AM/PM] to select between AM and PM.
    Then you may set the time you wish to turn off the feature by entering the hour and minute using two digits for each; press [AM/PM] to select between AM and PM. Press [SAVE]
  • Can I put a belt clip on the handset?
    Yes. The system includes a belt clip in the package.
  • Can I change the language display on my cordless phone from English to Spanish?
    Yes you may change the language from English (default) to Spanish. To do this, follow the steps provided:
    1. Press [MENU] on the handset
    2. Press [#] [1] [1] [0]
    3. Press your [&#9650;] or your [▼] to select your desired setting
    4. Press [SAVE] then OFF
  • Can I change the font size on the screen on my phone?
    No. The font size is fixed and there is no option to change it on the handset.
  • Can I change the channel of my phone?
    The product operates in the frequency range of 1.92 GHz to 1.93 GHz. The frequency is fixed and the channel cannot be changed, the telephone goes thru the bandwidth automatically.
  • Can I change the backlight timer on my phone? It keeps on turning off the back light.
    No. The handsets are preset for backlight, it is not programmable. When the handset goes idle, it will turn off the backlight to save battery charge.
  • Can I block calls using my phone?
    Yes. Caller ID service is required to identify phone numbers to match what you have stored on the call block list. The unit is capable of blocking up to 250 phone numbers, if you have more than 250 numbers to block then subscribing to a call block service from you phone company is an option.
  • Can I access my answering machine while I am away from home?
    Yes. You can access the answering machine remotely by dialing your phone number on any touch tone phone to call it and as soon as you hear your greeting message play, enter your mailbox password or remote code and follow the voice prompt, as soon as you are done listening to your messages you can hang up.
  • Boost shows up on my handset. How do I get rid of it?
    The clarity booster is a feature that can improve sound clarity when the handset is used in an area where there may be interference. During an outside call, this feature is turned on automatically when necessary. When this feature is turned on, [BOOST] is displayed.
  • Are there any setup tips about the location of the main base unit in relation to range and audio quality?
    Yes. To optimize the range / audio quality, please be aware that metal objects / devices within proximity of the main base unit (less than a few feet), may block base cordless signal to reach the cordless handsets, resulting in deteriorated audio/poor sound quality:
    - Personal computer
    - Fax machine
    - External hard drive
    - Cash register
    - Metal tray for stationary
    - Metal file cabinet
    - Other metal materials
    If you experience distorted audio on the cordless handsets at extended distance/certain spots, please check for the presence of these metal objects/devices, clear them (relocate the main base unit, if necessary) and you should hear better audio afterwards.
  • Are the keypads to my handset supposed to be back lit?
    Yes. The supplied handset for this model has a keypad back light.
  • How do I turn on my answering machine?
    To turn on the answering machine on the base unit, just press the answer on button, the light indicator will turn on to confirm that your answering machine is ready to pick up messages. To turn on or off the answering machine using your cordless handset, perform the following steps:
    1. On the handset, press [MENU]
    2. To turn on answering machine press [#] [3] [2] [7] or turn it off by pressing [#] [3] [2] [8]

  • How do I turn on and off the call sharing feature on my handset?
    Call sharing is a feature which allows you to join an existing outside call on any extension handset registered to your base. You may choose to have this feature on or off and it needs to be set separately on each handset.
    1. On the handset press [MENU]

    3. Select your preferred setting by highlighting [ON] or [OFF]
    4. Press [SAVE] then press OFF on the handset to exit.

  • How do I turn on and off the auto talk feature on my handset?
    You can answer calls simply by lifting the handset off the base unit or charger. The auto talk feature will not work if the cordless handset is off the base or charger. You do not need to press [TALK]. To turn this feature on or off, follow these procedure:
    1. On the Handset press [MENU]
    2. Press the pound sign, [#] [2] [0] [0]
    3. Press [0] for off then press [SAVE] then OFF to exit operation.

    Feature needs to be set separately on each handset.
  • How do I turn off Talking Caller ID/ the voice that announces the name or the number of the person calling me?
    This model is only capable of displaying the caller ID information on the handset if you are subscribed to Caller ID from the phone company but it does not have the Talking caller ID feature, it will announce names and numbers when you receive incoming calls
  • How do I store numbers on my answering machine so it can call my number when I receive a message?
    If the number is already stored on your phonebook, follow these procedure:
    1. On the handset press [MENU] then the pound sign [#]
    2. Press [3] [3] [8]
    3. Scroll down to "Notification to" then press [SELECT] then [ADD]
    4. Scroll to "Phonebook" then press [SELECT]
    5. Scroll down to the desired phonebook item then press [SAVE]

    If you prefer to manually enter the number instead of storing it in your phonebook first, then do the same procedure but as soon as you get to step 4, scroll down and press [SELECT] on "Manual" instead of "Phonebook" and dial the phone number you want programmed then hit [OK] and press [SELECT]
  • How do I set up speed dial on my phone?
    You can assign 1 phone number to each of the dial keys (1 to 9) on the handset. Press and hold the desired speed dial number, choose from 0 to 9 then press [ADD], Scroll to "Manual" then press [SELECT]. Enter the party's name then press [OK] Dial the party's phone number then press [OK], press [SELECT].
    If you have a phonebook item which you want stored on your speed dial number then follow the same procedure as above but scroll down to "Phonebook" instead of "Manual" then scroll to the desired item then press [SAVE]
    Note: If you edit a phonebook entry which is assigned to a speed dial key, the edited entry does not transfer to the speed dial key.
  • How do I set up speed dial on my phone?
    You can assign 1 phone number from the phonebook or by entering the phone number manually on each of the number buttons on the cordless handset. Proceed in assigning speed dial numbers on your base unit. To assign a speed dial number,

    1. On the handset, press and hold the desired speed dial key (numbers 0 to 9) then press [ADD]
    2. Press [SELECT] on "Manual"
    3. Enter the party's name (16 characters max) then press [OK]
    4. Dial the party's phone number and press [OK]

    If you have already stored a phone number on the shared phonebook:

  • How do I set up my answering machine?
    • Press the [ANSWER ON] button on the base to turn on your answering system. The answer on indicator should be lit.
    • Record your greeting message. The unit uses the Pre-recorded greeting which you can change if you prefer to use your own.
    • The default number of rings on the telephone are 4 rings before it answers a call. You may choose to change your ring count from 2 rings (minimum) to 7 rings (maximum).
  • How do I set the date and time on my handset?
    Using the handset, press [MENU] [#] [1] [0] [1]. Enter the date in the order month, date, year using two digits for each, then press [OK]. Now enter the hour and minute using two digits for each; press [*] to select between AM and PM, then press [OK]
  • How do I send my phone in for repair?
    It is recommended to exhaust all troubleshooting steps before unit is sent for repair. If the procedure won't work and the telephone was purchased within a year, ship the unit to Panasonic Exchange Center address: 4900 George McVay Drive, Suite B No.12, McAllen, TX 78503. We recommend UPS. Carefully pack in a padded shipping carton and include all accessories. Include a letter detailing the complaint, a return address and provide a day time phone number where you can be reached. P.O. Boxes are not acceptable. Keep the tracking number for your records. A copy of valid registered receipt is required under the 1 year parts and labor Limited Warranty. Refurbished replacement is to be delivered within 7-10 business days.
  • How do I scroll thru the menu selection on this handset?
    You can scroll thru the menu selection by pressing the [&#9650;] or the [▼] button, it is the biggest button in the handset located in between the [TALK] and [OFF] button.
  • How do I retrieve erased messages?
    You can no longer retrieve deleted messages from the machine. Once you erase a message it gets deleted from the phone's memory.
  • How do I reset my phone?
    To reset the phone system, unplug the main base from the electrical outlet and remove the batteries for 5 seconds. Install the batteries and replug the base. Do not reset your phone unless necessary.
  • How do I remotely turn on my unit's answering machine using a touch-tone telephone?
    You can turn on your unit's answering system remotely by performing the following steps.
    1. Dial your phone number using any touch tone phone.
    2. Let the phone ring 15 times. The greeting message is played back indicating the machine is already turned on. You can either use your remote code to continue to access your messages or hang up.
  • How do I record a greeting message?
    To record a greeting message or outgoing message, Press [MENU] [#] [3] [0] [2] and select [YES] on the handset, as soon as you hear a beep, start recording your message. To stop recording press [STOP] on the handset.
  • How do I properly charge my handsets?
    To ensure that the batteries charge properly, clean the charge contacts of the handset, base unit, and charger with a soft, dry cloth once a month. Clean more often if the unit is subject to the exposure of grease, dust, or high humidity. You may place the handset on its cradle after every use without damaging the batteries. Remember that the battery power is consumed whenever the handset is off the base unit or charger, even when the handset is not in use. Charge the battery(ies) provided only with the specified charger and for best performance, we recommend using the Panasonic rechargeable batteries.
    It is normal for the handset to feel warm during charging.
  • How do I play back messages on the answering machine?
    When new messages have been recorded, the message indicator flashes. Press Play [►] on the base. If you would like to listen to the message using the handset, press [MENU] then [PLAY] on the handset. You can also press [MENU] [#] [3] [2] [3] and the phone will automatically play the new messages on the handset.

    NOTE: If there are no new messages in the answering system, [PLAY] is not displayed.

  • How do I place a call on hold on my handset?
    During an outside call and you wish to place the other party on hold, just press [MENU] on the cordless handset and press [SELECT] on for "Hold". To release the call that was placed on hold, just press the [TALK] button on the handset or on another handset if you have multiple cordless phones.

  • How do I operate my answering machine?
    The answering system can answer and record calls for you when the line is not in use and you are unavailable to answer the phone. Press your [ANSWER ON/OFF]to turn on your machine. When the answering machine picks up a call and records a message the [PLAY] button on the base flashes. Press the [PLAY] button on the base to play the message. While listening to the message, you may choose to skip it by pressing the &#9658;►
    To Repeat a message, press ◄◄. To erase a message, press the button [ERASE] while the message is being played.
  • How do I install my brand new phone?
    After you open the box of your newly purchased phone, make sure you keep your receipt to validate the warranty of your phone. Check if all items and accessories that are supposed to be included in the box is complete, such as the batteries and the line cord etc. Follow these procedure to install and set-up he unit before use.
    1. READ the operating instructions Safety precautions before use.
    2. Use only the supplied Panasonic AC adaptor PNLV226, plug the tip at the main base unit and plug the adapter directly on a power outlet without any obstruction. Ensure that the AC outlet is installed near the product and is easily accessible.
    3. Use the supplied line cord and plug the cord at the back of the base securely, and the other end needs to be plugged in your telephone jack, make sure that the cord clicks when plugging the line cord on the base and the wall jack. You may now check if you can hear a dial tone when you lift the handset from the base.
    4. Remove the handset cover at the back of the cordless handset and insert the supplied rechargeable batteries inside. Confirm you install the batteries on its correct polarities, positive (+) and negative (-).
    5. USE ONLY Ni-MH batteries AAA (R03) size.
    6. Charge the new batteries by placing the cordless handset on the cradle. Initial charging needs to be 7 hours.

    After charging the handset, you may now start programming the handsets for your preferred settings.

  • How do I get rid of 'ECO' on my handset display?
    The intelligent Eco Mode reduces power automatically when the handset is close to the base unit to allow extended talk time. Battery life when using Talk button is about 13 hours when in Eco Mode. This is a feature of the phone that turns on automatically there is no procedure to disable it on the handset. ECO mode is turned off when the clarity booster is activated.
  • How do I forward calls from my phone to another number?
    This is a service that you can have your phone company activate on your line. The phone is compatible with this service as long as you have call forwarding subscription.
  • How do I erase the phone number programmed on my machine so it will stop calling it every time I receive a message?
    pTo erase the message alert call, perform these procedure:
    1. Press [MENU] on the handset then press the pound sign [#]
    2. Press [3] [3] [8]
    3. Press the [▲] or the [▼] to scroll to "Notification to" then press [SELECT]
    4. Press [MENU] the scroll to "Erase" then press [SELECT]
    5. Scroll to "Yes" and press [SELECT], press OFF to exit.

  • How do I erase missed calls on my handset?

    Your telephone is alerting you that you have a new voice message from your phone company's assigned Voice mailbox. Procedure to access your voice mailbox would vary depending on the instructions of your phone company / service provider. Once you listen to your new messages, "New Voicemail" should be cleared from the handset/
    Note: If the handset still indicates there are new messages even after you have listened to all new messages, turn it off by pressing and holding [#] until the handset beeps.
  • How do I check my voicemail using the handset?
    Some phone companies provide a flat-rate service which includes voice mail, it is a voice mailbox system assigned to your phone line that stores telephone messages which can be retrieved at a later time. Procedure to access your voice mailbox would vary depending on the instructions of your phone company. In order to listen to your voice mail messages, you must dial your service provider/telephone company's voice mail access number. Once you have stored your voice mail access number, you can dial it automatically by pressing the soft key for [VM] on the handset
    Note that the function [VM] will not appear on the display if you haven't stored your the voicemail number provided by your phone company to the Panasonic telephone. To store your voicemail access number, follow the procedure below:

To receive these calls again, you need to remove those entries from the block list. To access this list, press [MENU] [#] [2] [1] [7], and press [▲] or [▼] to scroll through the list. Once you find an entry to delete, press [ERASE], then press [Yes] to confirm.
  • Should the caller ID number show on the base display?
    Yes, if you are subscribed to a caller ID service, Caller ID number should show on the base unit's display.
  • My handset turns off, what do I do to fix it?
    Use ONLY Ni-MH batteries AAA (R03), which is specified in the operating instruction book. WARNING: DO NOT USE ALKALINE OR HEAVY DUTY BATTERIES. Reset the cordless handset by removing the batteries from the handset for a few seconds and place it on the cradle for 7 hours. If you have multiple handsets, try interchanging the batteries with another cordless phone to check if you need to replace the battery.
  • My handset says "line in use". How do I clear it?
    Make sure that the base unit has power. "Line in use" is displayed if the line is currently active on a call. If you have multiple handsets, it is possible that one of them is turned on so check the rest of the handset and turn it off.
    Check if all connections are secure and plugged properly from the wall and from the back of the base unit. If none of the handsets are in use, try to unplug the base unit from the power outlet for 5 seconds then replug and test the line by calling you line using your cell phone or a different phone line.
  • My handset keypad keeps blinking.? What's wrong?
    This is normal. Please recharge handset. When the battery voltage becomes low, the battery icon on the handset LCD will blink. If you don't recharge handset battery, the LED will shut off, and the Keypad light will blink to warn you to put the handset on the charger.
  • My handset is not charging. What can I do?
    First make sure you are using the Rechargeable batteries that came with the unit. The correct part numbers will be either HHR-55AAABU, HHR-65AAABU, N4DHYYY00002, or HHR-4DPA. Try charging the handset on the base charger. If that works, make sure the charging cradle is connected to the AC Adaptor, and the AC Adaptor is firmly plugged into the wall. Have you taken the batteries out of the handset recently. This will reset the battery indicator, so even though the batteries may be fully charged, the indicator will show low battery. Place the handset on the charging cradle for 7 hours to show full battery. Also, be sure the batteries are inserted properly. The '+' terminal should be showing at the top of the right battery and the bottom of the left battery.
  • My handset displays, "Please lift up and try again".
    You attempted to dial from the cordless handset while located in the charger. Lift the handset out of the charger and try again. If the same error message appears on the handset after lifting the handset from the cradle, reset the handset by removing the battery from the phone then re-install them again.
  • My handset displays 'Missed Calls'. How do I view the phone numbers on my list?
    On the handset press the [&#9660;] for CID or the soft key [CID] if you're using the base, then you can press the [▲] or [▼] to scroll the list. "Missed call should disappear as soon as the caller list has been viewed.
  • My handset displays "New Voice Mail". What does it mean, and how do I clear it?
    You received a message on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. To hear the message, dial the voicemail number provided by your service provider (many times, this will be your own phone number), and follow the voice instructions for listening to your messages. You need to store the voicemail access # by pressing [MENU] [#] [3] [3] [1] on the handset. To access the voicemail, press [TALK], then soft key [VM]. Depending on your service provider you may need to clear your voice mailbox to remove the notification.
  • My answering machine says "memory full" and it no longer records messages. What can I do about this?
    The error message indicates that the answering machine's maximum recording time was reached. You need to erase messages from your answering machine for it to start recording new messages again.

    No. Only intercom calling among handsets registered to the same base are possible.
  • I want to talk to 2 external numbers on my one line phone. What is "three way calling" and how do I perform this?
    A Three way call is a phone call in which the person who is calling wishes to talk to two other parties. It is a service offered by phone companies which allows you to call a party and by pressing the [Flash] button it allows you to receive another dial tone to call another phone number. Pressing [Flash] again will join all three parties together.
  • I took the batteries out of the handset just for a second and when I put them back in, the low battery icon flashes and the screen displays "charge for 7h". Is this normal?
    This is normal. When the batteries are taken out, the handset loses track of how much the batteries are charged. You may use the phone normally, but the battery indication will not be accurate until charged for about 7 hours.
  • I hear a series of beeps before my dial tone. Is this normal?
    If your dial tone is interrupted by several short gaps or beeps your phone company is indicating the arrival of a new voice mail message. It is the signal sent by your phone company to let you know that a message is waiting to be retrieved. If you are subscribed to a voice mail service from your provider this is normal.     The privacy mode is a feature on our Panasonic phones that prevents others from barging in, sharing a call or listening in to conversations when one of the handset is in use. You can Press [MENU] [#] [1] [9] [4] and select "ON" then press [SAVE] on the handset, this will activate the privacy mode for that one handset, you would need to repeat the same procedure for the rest of the registered handset if you would want this feature to be turned OFF for the entire system.
  • I have DSL service, will my phone be affected if I connect it on the same phone line?
    No. Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is a service provided to connect over the internet transmitting over your local telephone line and is subsequently separated by filtering, so a DSL filter is recommended to eliminate noise on the background on your phone. Most DSL service providers would have the filters available for their subscribers, you may also check out your local electronic stores for availability. If you are not getting any service from your phone there is still a possibility of a phone line problem even if your DSL is working properly.
  • I have blocked a certain phone number on my Panasonic phone system but the unit still rings when that number calls, why?
    If you do not want the first ring from a number on the call block list to sound, turn the first ringsetting to "Off". To do these, follow these procedure: On the handset press [MENU] then the pound sign [#] Press [1] [7] [3] Select "ON" then press [SAVE]
  • I can't hear a dial tone on my phone.
    Make sure that the base unit has power. Check if all cords are secure and plugged in properly from the wall and from the back of the base unit. Try to plug the unit to a known working jack then test again. If you have a different phone on the same line, and you are also not getting a dial tone, it is possibly a line problem. If that is the case, it is advised to contact your local phone company for further assistance.
  • I am trying to set up my phone and it says in the manual to press [OK], where is the button [OK] on my handset?
    The [OK] button is the middle soft key button. Soft keys are used in programming the phone system they are buttons that are not labeled on the Handset. They are located just below the screen on the handset and they function for whichever option is displayed on the screen.
  • I am experiencing Static and a humming noise in the background every-time I use my Panasonic phone. How do I fix it?
    If you are hearing static on your phone, reception breaks in and out or experiencing humming noise on the background while using your cordless phone, it might be caused by a transmission or electric interference, noise can also come from the phone lines, it would be best to locate the source of the interference first and a simple method of determining this would be to verify if static is heard on your other set of phones aside from the Panasonic. You can also try to relocate or plug the Panasonic phone to a different area where there is less interference. If you are subscribed to DSL service it is recommended to use a DSL filter, most DSL service providers would have the filters available for their subscribers, you may also check out your local electronic stores for availability.

  • How far can the handset reach if I have the range extender?
    Although it is not possible to give the range in actual distance using the KX-TGA405 Range Extender, it will increase the distance you can use the handsets from the base. The status light must be lit Green.
  • How does the power back up operation work?
    When a power failure occurs, the charged handset temporarily supplies power to the base dunit (power back-up mode). This allows you to make and receive landline calls using a handset during a power failure. The base unit will not perform any other functions. However, some functions such as Caller ID and shared phonebook are available only when using a handset other than the handset supplying power to the base unit.
    Important:
    • If a handset is not placed on the base unit when a power failure occurs, "Base no power Press OFF" is displayed. After pressing OFF on the handset, place it on the base unit to start power back-up mode.
    • Power back-up mode will not work if the battery level of the power supplying handset is low
    • Do not lift the power supplying handset from the base unit during power back-up mode.
    • Do not touch the handset's charge contacts during power back-up mode.
    • If the battery level is low, the unit will not work sufficiently during power back-up mode.
  • How does phonebook sharing work?
    Phone book sharing occurs automatically between handsets. It is not necessary to manually copy entries in the phone book from one handset to the other. Also, a phone book entry deleted on one handset is deleted from the other handsets as well.
  • How do I use call waiting?
    To use call waiting, you must first subscribe to the call waiting service of your service provider/telephone company. If you already have the service activated on your phone line you will hear a few beeps during a call to place the first person on hold and answer the second party, press [FLASH] OR [CALL WAIT] button on the handset. The current call is then put on hold, and the other call is answered. You can press [FLASH] OR [CALL WAIT] button to go between the two calls as often as needed.
  • How do I unblock a number from my call block list?
    To unblock a number do the following procedure:
    1. On the handset press [MENU]
    2. Press [#] [2] [1] [7]

    No. The batteries that comes with your telephone do not suffer from the same memory effect that older batteries used to have. It is safe to keep the handset on the charger whenever it is not in use. Use only the Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries. Never use Alkaline or any other types as these could damage your handset.
  • Why does my handset display "Please lift up and try again"?
    You attempted to dial from the cordless handset while located in the charger. Lift the handset out of the charger and try again.   • Why do I hear an echo on my handset?
    This is normal. When you first use your phone, there may be a slight echo because the microphone is being calibrated. This will occur again if the base is disconnected from the power outlet, or after a power outage. If echo continues for several days try to reset the handset by removing the batteries from the cordless handset for a few seconds.

  • When the alarm on a handset is set, will the alarm on the other handsets sound or is it only that handset's alarm that sounds?
    Only that handset's alarm will sound. To have the alarms of other units sound, you would have to set them individually.
  • When I answer an incoming call, I have to say "hello" several times before the other party can hear me. How can I fix it?
    Make sure that the handset is not on "MUTE". If the problem still occurs, unplug the base unit from the power outlet for 5 seconds and remove the batteries from the handset then put everything back and test the telephone. If the procedure won't work and the telephone was purchased within a year, ship the unit to Panasonic Exchange Center address: 4900 George McVay Drive, Suite B No.12, McAllen, TX 78503. We recommend UPS. Carefully pack in a padded shipping carton and include all accessories.     Disconnect the AC adapter from the unit, wait for 5 seconds, then reconnect. The plug may have become loose over time or may not be fully inserted. If that does not work, try re-registering the handset.
  • What should I do if my base unit does not have power and there are no lights lit?
    If your base unit is not receiving power then you can try to have the base unit plugged on a different power outlet to test. If you have multiple handsets, you can try to use the AC adapter from one of the smaller chargers and have it plugged on the base. If you have followed the steps mentioned above and you base unit still does not have power, the base unit needs service. Please refer to your operating instructions warranty page for procedure.
  • What should I do if my Answering Machine messages are not being recorded?
    Make sure the answering machine is turned ON by pressing the [ANSWER ON] button till the indicator lights up on the base. Check your greeting message. You may have an extremely short greeting message (less than two seconds) or your Greeting may have been erased. If that is the case, record another greeting message. If you have voice mail from your local phone company adjust the ring count on the answering machine to less than the voice mail ring count. Also, you if you have another phone on the same line that has an answering machine, be sure to turn OFF that other answering machine.
  • What should I do if I can't return a call from the numbers I have on my caller ID and it keeps on giving an area code for local numbers?
    Check the phone number if it is on the correct format, if it shows an area code and you would want that edited, Press the [&#9668;] for CID select which phone number you want to edit by pressing [▲] or [▼] and press [EDIT] repeatedly until it shows the correct number then press TALK. Once you call back an edited number, the handset which was used to call back remembers the area code and format of the edited number. The next time someone calls from the same area code, caller information is customized by the Handset the way you programmed it.
  • What kind of batteries can I use for my handset?
    One cordless handset uses two (2) Ni-MH (nickel metal hydride) type rechargeable AAA batteries.     Remote code can only be changed using the Panasonic phone it cannot be done remotely.

  • What is the maximum recording time for each message?
    The default setting for the maximum message recording time for each message is 3 minutes. However, you may change it to 2 minutes or 1 minute by pressing [MENU] [#], then [3] [0] [5], Then follow the instruction on the display.
  • What is the Auto talk feature?
    Auto talk is a feature which lets you answer calls simply by lifting the handset off the base unit or charger. You do not need to press the [TALK]. The Auto talk feature will not work if the cordless handset is off the base or charger. Feature needs to be set separately on each handset.
  • What is my phone's voltage?
    Use only the supplied Panasonic AC adapter. The phone operates on 120V, 60 Hz.
  • What is Eco Mode?
    The intelligent Eco Mode reduces power automatically when the handset is close to the base unit to allow extended talk time. Battery life when using Talk button is about 13 hours when in Eco Mode.
  • Voice Mail indicator doesn't work even though I have some new messages in my voice mail.
    To activate Voice Mail indicator function, you need to store voicemail access # into your handset. To do this, press [MENU] [#] [3] [3] [1], enter the access #, then press [SAVE].
  • The screen on my handset is stuck? How do I fix this?
    Reset the handset by removing batteries for at least 5 seconds, then put them back.
  • The screen is blank on my handset. How do I fix it?
    If you can still use the handset but the screen went blank or won't turn on, you reset the handset. To do this, just remove the handset cover at the back of the cordless handset, remove the battery for a few seconds and insert the battery and close the cover.
    If procedure doesn't work, adjust the LCD contrast by following this procedure:
    1. On the handset press [MENU] [#] [1] [4] [5]
    2. Select the adjustment by pressing number 1-6
    3. Press [SAVE]
  • The indicator light on the handset flashes slowly.
    The handset indicator light will flash for the following reasons:
    If the handset indicator light is flashing rapidly it means a call is being received.
    If a call is kept on hold for more than 9 minutes, an alarm tone starts to sound and the ringer indicator on the handset flashes rapidly as well.
    If the message indicator is flashing slowly, it means that there is a new message recorded on the built-in answering machine, once you listen to the message the indicator light should stop flashing.
    If 'New Voicemail' is displayed on the handset and the indicator flashes slowly, it means you have a new voicemail message, on your mailbox assigned to you by your phone company. If you are unaware of the voicemail subscription you may contact your phone company to get your voicemail PIN.
  • The handset display shows "Use rechargeable battery". What batteries should I use?
    You are using an Alkaline or other incorrect batteries. Please use the Ni-MH (Nickel metal hydride) batteries that came with the unit. If you need to replace the batteries, you may order them by clicking here. WARNING Alkaline or Heavy Duty batteries may damage the handset.
  • The ANSWER ON indicator on the base unit flashes rapidly.
    Answering system message memory is full. Delete old messages so that new messages can be recorded.
